ABOUT US

Body & Brain is a Korean wellness (K-wellness) yoga practice offered at a network of over 100 centers nationwide in the U.S. and many more abroad in Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Founded 40 years ago in South Korea by meditation expert Ilchi Lee, Body & Brain has helped millions of people around the world improve their physical health, emotional wellbeing and spiritual satisfaction.

Our classes use methods based on ancient East Asian mind-body traditions and can be modified for any age, level, and body condition. Our stretches are challenging enough to build lean muscle while also helping to relax the body and ease the joints to combine a gentler experience without compromising any of the benefits of traditional yoga. Whether you are looking for yoga and tai chi to help the symptoms of pain from injury or calm the mind from anxiousness or even strengthen the body overall, Body & Brain yoga’s unique methods can help you.

Our classes combine a healthy mix of stretching, breathwork, martial arts, meditation, and tai chi and are offered both online and in-studio.

FAQs

How is this different from other yogas?
Our Korean yoga emphasizes building a mind-body connection through energy and breath. We use different stretch poses than many Indian-derived yoga styles and focus on opening the body’s meridian channels and acupressure points for helping improve physical health and releasing stored emotions that may be affecting emotional and/or mental health. Additionally, our exercises are deep, gentle, and yet powerful so that no matter how uncoordinated or inflexible your body is, you can still follow along without stress and even those who are advanced in their yoga practice can receive the benefits.

What do I need to wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing is best during our Introductory Session and classes. The skin is the biggest organ on the body so we like to let your skin breathe to release toxins through the pores as you exercise.

Do I need to bring a yoga mat?
No. Most of our studios have cushioned flooring that doubles as a built-in yoga mat. Additional cushioned yoga mats are provided at the center to use during class.

Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. If you are not satisfied with your service after the Introductory Session, you have no obligation to continue and may cancel at any time.

Can I use my membership in other locations?
Unfortunately at this time, your membership is only valid at the center where you sign up.

What is a typical flow of class?
A typical flow of class goes like this: (1) Stretching to release tension and open the meridian channels to promote energy flow. (2) Breathing exercises to quiet the mind by controlling the breath. (3) Brain Wave Vibration to stimulate the anti-stress response in the brain stem. This technique has been researched by the University of London to lower hyperactive brainwaves and quiet mental chatter to prepare the mind for deep meditation. (4) Energy Meditation to feel energy moving in the body, which builds a mind-body connection and heightened self-awareness. (5) Cool Down Stretching to finish off the class with gentle stretches to prepare you to return to your life with increased focus and relaxation.
Special classes may follow a different format depending on region and center.
